Sparta Digital brings out innovative new Beacon applications in collaboration with Google
Manchester’s Buzzin app works with Google to bring interactive new features to citizens. Buzzin app (buzzinapp.com) makes life easier, helps users explore and keep up to date with all of the latest activities the city has to offer. When users walk into places of interests within the city like museums, libraries, Art galleries etc. they would receive contextual information and help to navigate around things of interest acting as a virtual guide.
Sparta Digital who developed the Buzzin app is using Eddystone™, an open beacon format from Google. The beacons themselves are provided by Sensoro, who pioneers manufacturing of these Beacons. Buzzin uses the latest Eddystone-EID because it enables a more secure beacon signal. Over 100 beacons have been installed in Buses, Art galleries, Museums, Libraries, various local businesses and other places of interest within Manchester. https://developers.googleblog.com/
Marketing Director, Vijay said: “The privacy and security of our customers is important to us. Through the use of a rotating Ephemeral Identifier, Eddystone-EID protects our users by preventing spoofing, malicious asset tracking, replay attacks, or just unpermitted access. With these new features from Eddystone, it opens the door for wider application within Smart city projects that we are currently working on.”
Buzzin app also provides travel updates and an easy to use hop-on ticketing system for travelling on public transport. Buzzin is a “one button click” app to pay for travel and related deals. Currently, being trialled on Burnley- Manchester routes with Beacons installed on Transdev buses (http://www.lancashirebus.co.uk/).
For example, users could get to know about an event happening in Manchester’s Craft & Design centre through the Buzzin app. They could just hop-on the bus and pay for the tickets to access the venue. When the user walks through the Craft & Design centre (http://www.craftanddesign.com/) the Buzzin app gives notifications about the various displays within the gallery. User is also able to receive historic and heritage information about special architecture within the centre, enriching their travel.
Digital Manager at Manchester Craft & Design centre, Christine Hitchins said: “With Beacons installed within our premises, we are able to provide a more interactive experience to our visitors”.
